Hey, Paranormal Investigator, what are you doing?
Helping or Hurting?
For my very first blog I'd like to talk about something a bit in depth, testing the waters of the mind. Although this site is an attempt to be a collective of paranormal things (Crosswave meaning the point at which everything, for a brief moment touches and interacts) I have something that drove me back when I did a bit of paranormal investigating. Read on...
Nowadays there are so many people investigating from the curious innocents to the professional veterans. With so much interest and ease of capturing something unexplained it's like a treasure hunt with apparitions instead of gold being the spoils. Like gold, or any treasure, a lot of fun is in the seeking and discovery more-so than the treasure itself. However, the prize is either spent, given away, or kept to oneself.
But we are talking about potential spirits who are trapped and troubled. Perhaps some are just enjoying the afterlife but the majority seem to be in some sort of despair. So, what are you doing to help them? Or are you?
Consider the ones who grab a camera and an EVP and seek out to capture "evidence." One type of investigator gets something compelling and freaks out, then bails. They do this every time or they stop investigating altogether. Others go so far as to gather a lot of equipment to further try to prove that something intelligent that cannot be seen with the naked eye exists. These investigators even post compelling audio and video samples, pictures and more. Okay, then what?
That's what I'm interested in. In my world, when someone needs help I contemplate in what way I can be of assistance. Action, advice, or nothing at all? Those are my options, all pertaining to the request and observation I have. When it comes to ghosts, spirits, demons, etc. what do you consider? Help or not? Do you take action to help, give advice or do nothing at all?
It seems to me that a common belief is that the spirit is troubled or trapped and needs to move on. When you get EVP's in direct responses do you go back with a formulated plan, meaningful conversation written down and advice in order to help it move on? Do you just keep piling up "evidence" and that is it? What do you do?
If one helped a spirit to move on it would no longer be there, meaning the place would no longer be haunted. This would be great for most and there are groups out there who have a goal to do just that. Kudos to you! For haunted attractions, however, this lack of a haunted place would certainly make way less money. For those who use troubled spirits for their own gain, isn't this exploitation? If so, how is it truly any different than using someone alive for their own gain?
Personally, I'd like to see if I can help and have a lot of common sense approaches I'd want to incorporate and if ever I got into the investigating part again I'm sure these theories would help in some way, even if it shows that there are some people out there who truly would like to help those in need even if they have no body anymore.
This blog post is simply asking what your eventual goal is, if you even thought about it. I'm not judging at this point, just really wondering. We all have beliefs about the dead and the living. Perhaps piling up evidence is all you want to do which can add to eventual proof. I disagree, personally, with exploitation of those in despair but this is also just my perspective and observation. After all, the intention of this site is to showcase a variety of things going on in the paranormal world through real life encounters and a bit in various forms of other entertainment. I do hope to gather such a following and awareness that I can implement some positive aspects into the investigative world that will actually help those spirits who are trapped. I understand that steps need to be taken. I'm just wondering about the ultimate goal of others in this field.
So, after all this mental exploration, I ask again: Help or not? Do you take action to help, give advice or do nothing at all? What is your final goal?
